Brushing your Bernadoodle, – 05/18/2023 – Amy

Brushing a Bernedoodle’s coat is an important part of their grooming routine. Here are some steps to follow when brushing a Bernedoodle:

  1. Use the right tools: Choose a brush suitable for your Bernedoodle’s coat type. A slicker brush or a combination of a slicker brush and a stainless-steel comb often works well. The slicker brush helps remove tangles and mats, while the comb helps in detangling and smoothing the coat.
  2. Start with a dry coat: Ensure that your Bernedoodle’s coat is dry before you begin brushing. Wet or damp hair can be more prone to tangling, making it difficult to brush.
  3. Divide the coat: Divide your Bernedoodle’s coat into sections to make brushing more manageable. Start with one section at a time, gradually working your way through the entire coat.
  4. Brush gently: Begin brushing the section of the coat using gentle strokes. Start from the base of the hair and work your way up towards the tips, being careful not to pull or tug excessively.
  5. Focus on problem areas: Pay extra attention to areas where tangles or mats are likely to form, such as behind the ears, under the armpits, the tops of the toes, down the legs, and around the tail. Use the comb or your fingers to gently work through any knots.
  6. Check for debris: While brushing, keep an eye out for any debris, such as twigs, leaves, or burrs, that may have gotten caught in the coat. Remove them carefully to prevent discomfort or further tangling.
  7. Be patient and gentle: Brushing can take time, especially with a longer-haired Bernedoodle. Be patient and work slowly to avoid causing any discomfort or stress to your pet.

Remember to brush your Bernedoodle regularly, aiming for at least a few times a week, to maintain a healthy and tangle-free coat. If you’re unsure about grooming techniques or have specific questions, it’s always a good idea to consult a professional groomer for guidance.

Client Testimonial:

My mini schnauzers are NOT easy to deal with. They are rambunctious, anxious, and jumpy! This place does such an amazing job with them and their haircuts look great – even though I know they are hard to work with. Thank you for your patience with my guys!
